Gales on Lake Tahoe

Dad and I drove the fast car over Donner Pass to Reno, visited the river, then down to a mall and had a Cinnabun and a coffee. The wind was blowing a lot of dust into Reno. We then climbed up through Galena and over Mount Rose (9000 feet), hiked in the meadow near the top and then down the mountain to lunch beside Lake Tahoe. There were strong winds everywhere, and gale force across the lake, to the point there were surfable waves coming across onto the shore. Not big waves, but there was a kite-surfer on a hydrofoil using the wind to leap 15 feet into the air, and sail way out from shore before running back. The hydrofoil kept him or her at least 3 feet above the waves much of the time. Very athletic.
The Truckee River, on the outskirts of Reno.
The meadow near the top of Mount Rose.

Water is still flowing the meadow.
The boardwalk was installed to protect the meadow from foot-damage by visitors.

 Creek makes happy gurgling noises.

Kite sailor, hard to see in this image. I think I needed a telephoto lens.
A number of sailboats were roiling around in the rough water. I wondered if any would break their mooring lines and crash into the shore or maybe flip over and sink.
A good day for a drive in the mountains.
