C720 Netbook And The Way Forward

I saw an article in the news a couple days ago that Acer is releasing a new Chrome netbook with the Intel Haswell chip. Its lower power demand than an Atom, but has way more computing power, multicore, and allows all day battery life. This is a pretty nifty thing to have, but here's a couple improvements I'd like to see.

  1. A solar panel on the lid, behind the screen. 4 layer, with diamond coating on the top layer to protect it from scratches. Electronics to feed it into the battery. Include a thin film solar panel on the screen too, in case its face up. And on the keyboard keys. All surfaces so its always charging anywhere there's light.
  2. Stable wet-cell ethanol fuel cell so you can fuel the laptop on cheap vodka if you need to. That's not a joke product. It actually exists. They've existed for over 12 years now. They're just not well known.
  3. Waterproof it and offer a heat transfer plate, aluminum, to let the heat escape. That way it won't die if it gets wet.
  4. 4G and WiMax support so it can talk to many networks and access data by nearest efficient bandwidth. It already has 802.11N wireless data. This makes for better use and for lower battery drain.
  5. Enable off-network operation like an Ultrabook. Because sometimes you can't get signal.
  6. Make sure its got the GPS chip and antenna built in like the Nexus models. There are too many features for GPS to be ignored.

These would be great for historians, journalists, geographers, architects, designers, engineers, coders, students, field reps. Many fields could use these laptops or tablets. Portable computing becomes more portable. My best friend That Guy(tm) would love to see your personal computer and data to the size of a wallet you carry in your pocket. And I suppose that's possible. Imagine if your smart phone came with a multicolor projection laser or equivalent which would shine on the wall and correct for distortion too? You wouldn't need a big screen to watch a movie. It should just shine there and you're set.

This is what high technology promises. Its way bigger and more interesting than people think.
